Before leaving for the trip last week I discovered that I had lost my cell phone, somewhere up at the Grand Canyon Association Member's Day events. So the plan for today was to go up to the Canyon and check with the Lost and Found office to see if anyone had turned it in.
We left the house a little before 10 with the intention of stopping at Kendrick Park first to do some bird watching. We saw quite a few birds but most did not want to cooperate for photos. We also saw some antelope just south of Valle.
We had no luck at the Xanterra Lost and Found office though I must admit the guy who worked there went out of his way to help. He even called the Park Service Lost and Found for us but they did not have anything that sounded like my cell phone either. After that we stopped by the GCA offices at the Community Center thinking someone may have turned it in directly to them. No luck there either. Both places took info from me in case it turned up and I just planned to pick up a new cell phone when I got home. The lost one was very old anyway and due to be replaced.
After giving up on the phone we went over to the Kolb Studio to check out the exhibit there. This turned out to be a photography exhibit which I found quite interesting. They had some really beautiful photographs.
After Kolb Studio we headed up to the Bright Angel snack shop for ice cream. While eating our ice cream were entertained by the ravens. They were having a blast playing on the thermals off of the south rim and at one time there must have been several dozen of them in the sky. It was amazing to watch them. A few condors came over from the north rim later in the afternoon and the ravens immediately set upon harassing them... both in the sky and where ever they decided to rest. Apparently the ravens don't like the condors... but they are little threat to them.
We had a lovely dinner at the Arizona Room and then went out to Grandeur Point to watch the sunset and then went to the evening ranger program which as luck would have it was about the night sky at Grand Canyon. I had hoped to get some shots of the crescent Moon over the Canyon after the Sun had set but some clouds in the sky had other plans.
Update: The cell phone finally turned up about a week after we got home. Someone found it in one of the GCA vans and they were shipping it back to me. I already had a new cell phone and I was surprised to discover when I received this one that it still had a full charge. After sitting idle for 3 weeks I would have expected it to be quite dead.
