Walk over to El Tovar for breakfast. Nice morning, sunny and cool, but gloomy clouds off in the distance. Have breakfast quesadilla. Mike Coltrin had it yesterday and it looked good. It was.

08:30 - Grand Canyon Village

Back to room to get postcards. Head over to post office for stamps. Not open yet. Go to Yavapai Point and hang there until 9. Check out Utah Flats with binoculars, try to figure out where the route goes.

09:00 - Grand Canyon Village

Go to post office, get stamps and mail postcards. Head back to room to pack up gear. Figure out what else I need to buy in the way of food. Check out of room. Go to ranger program at new Canyon Information Center. Major rain shower with thunder and lightening during it. Talk with ranger for a while afterwards.

12:30 - Grand Canyon Village

Back to Bright Angel. Starts to rain again. Gets cold. Get a capiccino instead of ice cream. Watch rain come down. Finally lets up. Go to other ranger program at El Tovar. This one is by Marker (Magraget) Marshall.

14:00 - Grand Canyon Village

Head over to general store to pick up remaining food for trip after program. Get Pringles, M&Ms, hot dogs, onion and rye bread (to go with beef stick). Get everything into pack. Decide to try and take the day pack as well... also backpack cover... just in case. Wait for Chuck until 5 but he doesnt show.

17:20 - Bright Angel trailhead

Decide to head down to Indian Garden, dont want to walk down in the dark, trail could be a mess because of all of the rain.

18:55 - Indian Garden

Trail is muddy in places but not too bad. Get to mile-and-a-half resthouse at 17:50. Get to two-mile corner at 18:00. Get to three-mile resthouse at 18:20. Average about 3 mph. Unpack gear and have dinner. Update journal. Wait for Chuck to show.
